-The Listening Post-

The title of this post is a new/old feature where I will post lyrics to a song, or songs, that I have heard recently, or describe the way I'm feeling. It doesn't matter if they're old or new, but they mean something to me and hopefully to you too. Yes I could post a link to a video or audio thingie, but I'm old school & therefore shall not. I hope I have your understanding.

Today I will be posting two songs that sadly coincide with the way I've been feeling lately. Sing along, hum along, or simply follow the bouncing ball.

*DESPERADO*

Desperado why don't you come to your senses
You've been out ridin' fences for so long now
Oh you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet

Now it seem to me some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get

Desperado you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger they're drivin' you home
And freedom (oh freedom) that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walkin' through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the winter time
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
You're loosin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feelin' goes away

Desperado why don't you come to your senses
Come down from your fences open the gate
It may be rainin' but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you (let somebody love you)
You better let somebody love you before it's too late.

-Don Henley/The Eagles

*AGAINST THE WIND*

It seems like yesterday
but it was long ago
Janie was lovely she was the queen of my nights
There in the darkness with the radio playin' low
And the secrets that we shared
The mountains that we moved
Caught like a wildfire out of control
'Til there was nothing left to burn
And nothing left to prove

And I remember what she said to me
How she swore that it would never end
I remember how she held me oh so tight
Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

Against the wind
We were running against the wind
We were young and strong
We were running against the wind

And the years rolled slowly past
And I found myself alone
Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends
I found myself further and further from my home
And I guess I lost my way
There were oh so many roads
I was living to run and running to live
Never worried about paying or even how much I owed

Moving eight miles a minute for months at a time
Breaking all the rules that would bend
I began to find myself searching
Searching for shelter again and again

Against the wind
A little something against the wind
I found myself seeking shelter
Against the wind

Well those drifter days are past me now
I've got so much more to think about
Deadlines and commitments
What to leave in
What to leave out

Against the wind
I'm still running against the wind
I'm older now but still running against the wind
Well I'm older now and still running against the wind

I've heard three versions of Desperado (Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Tori Amos) and love them all. It's one of those perfect songs.

You would do well with an account on blip.fm
thank me latter.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Elaine's boyfriend always tuned her out when listening to Desperado. Therefore, SHE needed a song of her own and chose Witchy Woman.

I agree Cate. Have not heard the Amos version- curious now.

IMO nothing can touch the original- Hopefully my life will take a different path than the desperado's.

Ah DB, I'm always hoping to do better than well. ;^)

Perhaps I will flip for the blip. How 'bout I thank you now?

Stef loves her, her Seinfeld!

Though I'm not a huge fan as I felt the series was spotty good at best, that sounds like a damn funny ep I'd like to see!
